We have been busy making home visits to share developmental information with our families as well as fun activities to try with their children.  We always have a family night a month and in December all families were invited to come decorate cookies and participate in some skits that the early childhood classrooms had set up.  In January we set up stations in our gym to try some hands-on activities related to winter.  We played in instant snow, decorated our metal snowman with magnet clothes, cut out snowflakes, and danced to the song "The Freeze".  Our mission is to support and encourage you as parents to help your children develop optimally during their crucial early years of life.  Call and make an appointment for a visit, you can reach us at 1-417-745-2133.

Busy Bees have been learning about Johnny Appleseed and all different kinds of apples.  We made applesauce from five different kinds of apples, and enjoyed taste testing the different varieties.  We have been working on colors and shapes and practicing fine motor skills by coloring inside different shapes.  We've taken "Color Walks" to find how many primary colors there are around the school grounds.  We went to the Hickory County Library for a special story hour on October 11th and also to the "Fun Farm" near Lowry City on October 18th.  We enjoyed the leaves changing colors and falling from the trees, and making colorful collages out of them

Welcome back to the Bumblebee Preschool!! We have been learning about ourselves and each other by reading books and doing projects on our Five Senses, All About Me, and colors. We enjoyed activities such as: drawing self-portraits of ourselves, taste testing different foods, and mixing the primary colors of Jell-o to make a new color. We also enjoyed going on our first field trip to the Hickory County Library where we enjoyed listening to story hour. We will have lots of new things to share with you in the next newsletter!

Hornet Preschool class spent the first few weeks getting acquainted with each other, the teachers and their new room. They learned how to take care of the things in their room including the computers, CD players, two fish, the art supplies and the classroom books. They have been busy learning the daily routine of school and each day they practice writing their names, do a journal page, read, play outside, and have choice time.

We have already worked on several themes including “Apples,” “All About Me,” “Families,” “Fall Leaves,” “Pumpkins,” and “Fire Safety.” We will add to “All About Me” book throughout the year and we have started an alphabet book, which we plan to complete by the end of the school year.

With the weather so nice, Ms. Cheryl and Ms. Penny filled the outdoor sensory table with water almost every day. The students enjoyed spraying each other, Ms. Cheryl and “washing” the bikes, and “painting” the walls.

We look forward to what the next few months bring our way – field trips, guests, cooking projects and many, many other new and exciting experiences!

Day Infant

By: Ms Linda

The age range in the infant program this year is between three months and eleven months.  So, the range of skills is great!  We have a little one with sounds and alertness just emerging, infants just perfecting crawling skills, and ones pulling up to things gaining more and more self-confidence in order to walk.  The infant room is a very active and busy room.  In the following weeks they will be learning to imitate sounds, stacking large blocks, and walking independently.

Day and Evening Toddler

By: Ms. Kathy

Welcome back toddlers!  We jumped right into learning, starting with colors.  Some of our activities included painting, playing a color matching game, painting rock ladybugs, colored water in the sensory table, and reading lots of books about colors.  One of the children’s favorite activities was reading “School Bus” and taking a walk to the bus barn to see the yellow school buses.  Next we talked about creepy bugs.  Some of our activities include going on a bug hunt to the outdoor classroom, reading about bugs, and painting butterflies with our feet.  One of the children’s favorite activities was digging plastic bugs out of cornmeal that was in our sensory table.  We are looking forward to winter and all that it will bring.
